Redesigning a super-app

i-riide, a Swiss startup in the smart urban mobility space, needed to revamp its super-app that combined several services. The app included parking, car sharing, EV charging, and delivery. When i-riide approached Bamboo Apps, the company was preparing to raise investment.

The client requested a UI/UX audit and a redesign of major app elements. Here, the goal was to make the product more user-friendly and bring it in line with modern apps like Omio. i-riide already had an early version of the app, but it lacked visual consistency and required refinement. The client also needed a partner who could work with a non-technical product owner and provide consultative input rather than just production work.

A three-step approach to new visuals

Bamboo Apps began with competitor research and an evaluation of the existing user flows. The team then proposed several improvement options – with the focus on three primary areas.

Flow optimisation

Our first priority was to optimise key user flows. Bamboo Apps’ designer examined the car-booking process and found ways to reduce it from roughly ten steps to just a few. They also simplified the overall navigation and worked to match the logic of different services with the emerging super-app structure.

Visual refinement

Next, the Bamboo Apps team refined the visual style and prepared comprehensive UI kits in Figma. The kits covered:

  • home screen
  • car-sharing flow
  • booking flow
  • booking history.

The goal was to create visual consistency across the different services within the app.

Strategic recommendations

Beyond the visual output, Bamboo Apps delivered a set of structured UI/UX recommendations. These served as a guide for the client’s future development of the super-app concept. Moreover, the recommendations directly supported the company’s upcoming fundraising milestones by giving a clearer product vision to present.

Elaboration

Working within the constraints

We approached the i-riide project with hypotheses about user behaviour. The team assumed the existing flows had a long time-to-complete and a high drop-off rate.

Based on the assumptions above, Bamboo Apps conducted internal testing of the proposed designs and recognised it had limitations. This helped us come up with a new, faster approach to some of the features, like car booking.

Results

A refreshed app with modern interfaces

i-riide now uses these refined visuals in its external communications and investor presentations. Overall, the project gave the startup a more polished product interface to accompany its preparations for raising further investments.
